Boreham Wood’s FA Cup journey ended, as they fell to a harsh 3-0 defeat against Coventry City at the Ricoh Arena.
The Wood had started the brighter of the two side, but first half goals from Duckens Nazon and Marc McNulty took the wind out of their sails.
Jordan Shipley then added a third early in the second half and sealed the win for the Sky Blues.
Tom Champion, Dean Wells and David Stephens formed an experienced back three, with in-form duo Bruno Andrade and Dan Holman leading the line.
It was Holman who had the first effort of the game, fizzling a strike narrowly wide.
The Wood had started strongly and Andrade displayed his talent when breaking forward, he slipped past his marker with ease, but was disposed when cutting back.
A long free kick from Wells was knocked down by Stephens, but thrashed clear by Coventry, before the Wood could pounce.
Blair Turgott, Ricky Shakes and Andrade exchange a series of passes down the left, but the latter’s cross was headed clear.
The best chance of the match for the Wood came shortly after the 20-minute mark, the ball fell for Andrade who drove it powerfully at Lee Burge, but it was blocked wide.
The ball was recycled and picked up by Kane Smith on the edge of the area, he dinked it at goal, but Burge caught.
However, against the run of play, Coventry opened the scoring. Grant Smith made an excellent first save from McNulty, but was powerless to prevent the rebound being struck home by Nazon.
Despite the host’s opener, the Wood remained on top. Turgott turned his marker and sent Andrade through, but his shot was blocked at the death by Ryan Haynes.
The resulting corner was sent in by Andrade, and Burge could only punch it as far as Shakes, but the wing-back knocked it over the bar, with an overhead kick.
The Wood had pushed forward and were caught on the counter by the Sky Blues. A lofted ball forward was met by McNulty, who lifted it over the top of Grant Smith and into the left corner.
Desperately searching for an opener of their own, the Wood poured forward once again and Holman teed off Andrade, but he curled his effort into the hands of Burge.
Holman then tried his luck from range, but it sailed wide.
The two sides returned from the break knowing the next goal was crucial and that goal came as early as the 48th minute.
With the Wood on the attack, Coventry countered and Shipley broke into the box to meet a low cross, and sneak it in from close range.
Chances were few and far between for the two teams in the remainder of the half, but Luke Garrard’s side refused to give up.
A low cross from Turgott was met by Holman in the area and he snapped it at goal, but it was blocked wide on its way through.
Still attacking, Andrade thrashed a low strike from the edge of the area, but it was held by Burge in the host’s goal.
Boreham Wood had a great chance to pull one back with 20 minutes remaining, Andrade flashed a low ball across the box, but substitute Shaun Jeffers was unable to turn it in.
Despite the score line, the Wood Army remained in full song at the Ricoh Arena until the final whistle, having turned out in their numbers to support the side.
