Boreham Wood versus Welling United – Match Preview

18 April 2013

by John Mead

This Saturday Wood host Champions elect Welling United in our penultimate home game of the Season.    It promises to be a special occasion with the visitors expected to travel in numbers given that they require just one point for the title and an assured place in the Blue Square Bet Premier next Season.

We are still in contention for a Play-off spot mathematically and Ian Allinson is targeting a win to avenge our biggest defeat of the Season having lost 4 – 0 at the Park View Road ground earlier this Season.

United have taken ten points from their last five games, their only defeat was on the road at second placed Salisbury City.    However, the overall form of The Wings this Season has been superb with that defeat still leaving City a mountain to climb to pip the Kent side to the title.    If City fail to gather maximum points at home to Havant & Waterlooville then Welling United will be dancing round Meadow Park at a quarter to five win, lose or draw.

Allinson has targeted his side to reach sixty-nine points this Season meaning nothing less than three victories is acceptable in their remaining fixtures.    The nature of the Division this Season has meant every one of Wood’s games has been a must win for both sides taking part, with so many teams fighting for survival and promotion.    That pressure continues this Saturday.    Wood managed to post a 2 – 1 win against the visitors last Season at Meadow Park, whilst losing the reciprocal fixture 0 – 2 the Season before, our first in the Blue Square Bet South.

It promises to be a highly charged affair and all Wood fans are encouraged to turn out in numbers, given the large travelling fan base expected, to get behind Ian and the boys in what has been a hugely successful Season overall.

Boreham Wood versus Welling United, Saturday 20 April 2013, Kick off 3.00pm.
