Boreham Wood versus Salisbury City – Match Preview

18 February 2013

by John Mead

In the most unpredictable of Season’s, League leaders Salisbury City and Boreham Wood have escaped the frantic jostling for position, that most other sides have encountered.    That will change however, possibly as soon as this week!

For now though let’s pay homage to a side that has led the table from the first month of the Competition and a side that has never been out of the Play-off places since the very first game of the Season.

Pleasantries aside, if Wood get their way and the bookies are correct this may not be the last time we meet! City’s hold on the automatic promotion spot has outlasted many a casual observer’s prediction.

The  “Player of the Month” Award collected by Jamie White the League’s leading scorer held its usual curse, with White’s twenty goal Whites losing twice in succession.    Both these games were on the road and if we were to triumph it would make it a hat-trick of losses for the Champions elect.    Right up their exhaust pipe we find Welling United, who sit just three points behind the leaders with two games in hand.    Strangely they failed to capitalise on our visitor’s misfortunes, themselves also losing two on the trot away from home on the very same dates!

Scarily Ian Allinson’s “Manager of the Month” Award coincided with Jamie’s and lo and behold we have not won since!    Two draws and a defeat at Welling United lead us nicely into two massive matches at Meadow Park, with third placed Dover Athletic due in town this Saturday.    With Welling United hosting Farnborough twenty four hours before this game, out visitors may already be licking their wounds as a Wings victory will take them top, on goal difference.

City’s superb Season can be summed up by our contrasting points’ tallies.    They sit an incredible eighteen points ahead of us.    To try and imagine how that feels, if we were playing a team eighteen points below us they would be second bottom in the table!

That aside this is an absolutely massive game for both sides.    With Eastleigh finally firing on all cylinders, their five match winning streak has lifted them to just two points behind us, with their focus firmly (for now) on our Play-off spot!

A highly charged affair is absolutely guaranteed on the night so try not to miss this extremely important game for both sides.

Boreham Wood versus Salisbury City, Wednesday 20 February 2013, Kick Off: 7.45pm.
