Boreham Wood FC have been delighted to learn that our former ‘Wood’ youth star Lee Hodson, has joined ex-Wood player and now Glasgow Rangers Manager Mark Warburton at Ibrox.

Mark has continued his trend of bringing former Watford youth players to the Glasgow giants. Lee now joins Rob Kiernan and Harry Forrester at the Gers as they prepare for their return to Scottish Premiership. In addition Lee links up with another former Wood loanee Wes Foderingham who also plays for the Gers.

Lee began his career within the Boreham Wood FC youth set-up for five years, before joining Watford FC when aged just 13. Since breaking into the Hornets First Team in 2009, Lee has enjoyed a hugely successful Football League career making over 150 appearances during spells with both Watford and MK Dons. At the age of 24 he has also had successful loan periods with Brentford and most recently in Scotland with Kilmarnock.

Additionally, through Lee’s paternal Grandmother, he has had the honour to represent Northern Ireland 15 times. Although he didn’t feature, Lee was part of Northern Ireland’s 23-man squad that recently reached the last 16 of the European Championships in France, narrowly losing to fellow home nation Wales.

When Lee was asked about his relationship with ex-Wood man Warburton in a Rangers FC website interview he commented “He signed me at 13 as an academy lad and he watched me go through the ranks and play for Watford’s First Team. Mark went to Brentford and I went on loan for a season there and I can only sing his praises…”

“He has done so much for my development as a kid, giving me that opportunity to progress through the Watford ranks and then taking me to Brentford to have a loan spell there… He’s had a massive influence on my career as a youngster and I’m grateful and excited to be here working with him again.”

Boreham Wood Chairman Danny Hunter had this to say about the two ex-Wood men joining up again at Rangers “It’s a fantastic accolade for young ‘Hoddo’ and ample reward for the years and years of hard work he’s put in. He has a quiet confidence in his ability and has since a small boy made the most of his talent… I’m still great friends with both his mother and father and I know they are very proud parents at the moment and will no doubt be getting ready to make more than a few journeys to Ibrox next season.”

“As for Mark, he’s not only a good friend, he’s a loyal man and he is going from strength to strength. Mark will I’m sure continue to go about his work with intelligence, a quiet confidence and a strong conviction. Rangers will I believe begin to close the gap on Celtic’s dominance in recent years and in truth Scotland really does need the old firm derby back to re ignite interest in the Scottish Premier League.”
