Boreham Wood FC can confirm that in line with the Football authorities, as well as alongside our counterparts across the Premier League, EFL and National League, we will be joining in the united social media boycott in response to the ongoing and sustained discriminatory abuse received online by players, Clubs and many others connected with the game.
The boycott will begin today, Friday 30th April from 3pm until 11.59pm on Monday 3rd May.
Chairman Danny Hunter had this to say on this weekend’s social media boycott, “We wholeheartedly support this sporting initiative, and we hope this is just the start of holding cowardly individuals and these social media platforms to account.
“In truth we are just a small club, so we’re fortunate in the main that we do not have the type of regular issues that many of the bigger clubs and the more high-profile players, Managers and staff have to face on a daily basis, even at our level. That said in this day and age, like everyone, our Club, our players, our Manager and our staff still do get abuse on occasion and it does affect everybody…
“So whether it’s racial, gender, religious or a random bullying keyboard warrior, as of today at 3pm, we will no longer turn a blind eye to online abuse in the hope that it goes away. We will deal with things carefully but robustly as our aim is to protect our Manager, our players, our staff, our Club and our community from these vile individuals.
“These people don’t care who they hurt, they promote unrest, promote hate and promote division and as we’ve seen recently, this has resulted in many people, especially in the young, taking their own lives and it has to stop.” Hunter concluded.
Please note: Whilst our social media platforms remain down this weekend, you can find all you need on our official club website, as well as match information for Monday’s visit of King’s Lynn Town to Meadow Park and the continued sale of season tickets/memberships below.
