BOOKIES MAKE US FAVOURITES TO GO DOWN

The Bookies wasted no time in putting the odds up for the new National League and surprise, surprise, we are ranked by some distance one of the worst teams in the division at odds of 150/1..

Chairman Danny Hunter commented “As a club it’s not a surprise, we are more than used to being written off and we’re quite comfortable with that. It happened when we were a 33/1 shot when gaining promotion from the Ryman league into the Conference South in 2009/10.. We were also everyone’s favourite’s for relegation in our first season in the Conference South and finished 14th. Every year it seems we need to prove the doubters wrong and we only do that by improving season by season”..

Hunter went on “We got wrote off last season when everyone felt we’d fall away. Our odds at one stage were 66/1, so not being taken seriously is nothing new to us and we actually all quite enjoy it”..

“It certainly does seem to suit us, as we have now had three promotions in the last nine years. I believe we’ve shown every small club, that with good staff and management team, with planning, organisation and good players, that anything is possible in football. Ian, Luke and the staff will work night and day to improve our squad, to improve our budget and come August 8th, they will have us ready and competitive..

Wood Manager Ian Allinson laughed off the odds by saying “I think 150/1 is a bit short in all honesty and perhaps 500/1 would be about right”..

“In all seriousness we respect the league, we respect the teams and we know we’ll need to learn very quickly. I’m pleasantly surprised though by the quality of player we are attracting and the squad I’m putting together will be strong, will have legs and will be balanced.. I’m happy with being written off as relegation certainties, as it will only serve to motivate the players, the supporters and ensure we’ll be nobody’s pushovers”.. Allinson concluded.
