A TRIBUTE TO MONTY

21 December 2015

MONTY

Wood Chairman Danny Hunter spoke to BWFC’s Media and Communications manager Grant Morris about his sadness at the departure of Graeme Montgomery to local rivals Hemel Hempstead but wishes him every success at his new club.

Hunter said “Monty and his family were so important in what we were building and they became part of the fabric of the club and epitomised what we were all about. They were part of something that took Ian Allinson, Luke Garrard, Mario Noto and all my staff over five seasons to build and it culminated in our play off win against Whitehawk, that none of us will ever forget”..

“Our supporters will tell you Monty is a maverick type player, who has a wand of a left foot, he has an eye for goal and loves to attempt the impossible. In his time with us he just got better and better and even this season he will sign of with two great goals that got us wins at both Tranmere and Torquay Utd”..

“I loved watching Monty because he could do things that other players at Conference South level simply couldn’t. Of the top ten goals ever scored at Meadow Park in my time as Chairman, Mont’s has probably scored six of them and importantly he could also go and get them in the big away games, like the play off semi screamer he got down at Havant last year”..

“Every time he got off our team coach at away games, I would laugh and remind him that he was my favourite player. He would just smile in that laid back way of his but in truth I honestly meant it and I’ll genuinely miss him and his family”..

“Our success last season as a club, was always built on our dressing room, it was built on our infra structure, manager, coaches and players. The trust we had built up over the years made it so special to be part of and it just made us so hard to beat in the big games. Our dressing room was built on hard work, built on honesty, built on friendships and with no prima donnas”..

“Whatever it was, it seemed to work for us as it has brought us promotions, FA 1st round cup ties against Brentford and Carlisle, it also gave us some great nights like our Herts county cup win and those memories, when coupled with some of our end of season trips to Puerto Banus forged bonds and friendships that will I hope last a life time”..

GRAEME MONTGOMERY ‘THE WOOD’ SALUTES YOU.
