Tomorrow, Luke Garrard’s men make our longest trip of the season to face promotion-chasing Truro City in the Vanarama National League South, kicking off at 19:45.
Last Season for the Tinners
In their first season back in the sixth tier since 2019, the Tinners finished a comfortable 16th, nine points clear of the relegation zone. Although the Tinners fought a hard-fought relegation battle into April, John Askey’s side enjoyed two wins and a draw in their final four games to confirm their place in the sixth tier this season.
Form Guide
The Tinners are currently the most in-form side in the Vanarama National League South, with four wins and two draws in their previous six outings. To add to their strong form in recent weeks, the side, formerly nicknamed the White Tigers, haven’t been defeated since January. Overall, this run has lifted Truro to fifth in the table, just five points behind top-of-the-league Dorking Wanderers, as well as having a game in hand over the Surrey-based side.
Their previous outing was a 4-1 demolition of mid-table Chesham United at The Meadow. John Askey’s side enjoyed an exceptional first half, with goals from Connor Riley-Lowe, Tyler Harvey, and Pharrell Johnson putting the away side 3-0 up going into half-time. Second-half goals from either side led to an eventual 4-1 away win for Truro, who will be looking to extend their unbeaten run to eight games in a row tomorrow evening.
Last Time We Met
The Wood clinched a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Truro City, with Charles Clayden’s 48th-minute goal proving the difference. Both teams created chances in the first half, but it was Wood’s Nathan Ashmore who stood out with a series of crucial saves. In the second half, Clayden’s composed finish broke the deadlock, and despite a sustained push from Truro, Ashmore’s acrobatics and Wood’s resolute defending kept the visitors at bay. The home side remained firm under pressure, holding on to secure a vital three points.
One to Watch
Truro talisman Jaze Kabia will be one to watch tomorrow evening. After joining the Tinners from Scottish League Two side Clyde last summer, the Irish forward has impressed with 12 goals and eight assists in the Vanarama National League South this season.
The Wood
Luke Garrard’s men will be looking to continue our four-game unbeaten streak tomorrow evening, which has helped us continue our climb back up the Vanarama National League South table in our hunt for promotion. After a tough end to January, which continued into February, three wins in the last four games have put the Wood back on the path to promotion.
Our previous game saw the Wood make an incredible comeback from a two-goal deficit to earn a point away at full-time Torquay United. A slow start to the game saw the Wood 2-0 down at the break, after goals from Gulls top scorer Jordan Young and EFL veteran Matt Jay. A change in personnel in the second half turned our fortunes around, with substitutes Abdul Abdulmalik and Junior Dixon both scoring to level the game. Dixon’s 98th-minute equaliser at the death put the Wood in a position that, with a win tomorrow evening, we will be only a point off league leaders Dorking Wanderers.
