Jon Benton began his career at Southend United, progressing through the youth ranks at Roots Hall before making his National League debut for the Shrimpers in February 2022 at home to Weymouth. Later that year, Benton joined Braintree Town on loan, scoring three goals in 14 appearances before returning to Southend, where he made five more appearances for the Shrimpers.
Ahead of the 2023/24 season, Benton moved permanently to Aveley, scoring three goals in 11 games during a short stint at Parkside. After a strong run of form for the Millers, he returned to the National League in October 2023 with a permanent move to Solihull Moors. During his time at Damson Park, Benton made 25 league appearances for the Moors, as well as featuring twice in the National League play-offs, including the promotion final at Wembley, where Solihull fell short in a penalty shootout against Bromley, although Benton converted his spot kick.
Prior to the 2024/25 season, the attack minded midfielder joined National league South side Maidstone United on loan, making 15 appearances for the Stones and scoring once. However, after his positive start to the season, Boreham Wood perused Benton’s signature on a permanent basis and he arrived at Meadow Park from Solihull Moors in November 2024 for an undisclosed fee.
