Match preview: Truro City (H)

11 November 2024

The Wood return to the Mangata Pay UK Stadium tomorrow evening, as we host Truro City in a 19:45 kick-off.

Last season for the Tinners

John Askey’s side finished in 16th position last year in the National League South. Last season was their first season back in the sixth tier of English Football, after sealing promotion from the Southern South Premier division.

Form guide

The Tinners have gone unbeaten in their last five matches, winning two and drawing three. Truro took a trip to Farnborough, where after taking the lead in the 12th minute, things went downhill for the away side as Palfrey and Riley-Lowe both saw red for the same incident. Farnborough then found an equaliser late on in the game to earn a point.

Returning to Truro, John Askey’s side found a winner right at the death in a 2-1 win against Tonbridge. Draws to Slough Town and Chippenham came next, both ending 1-1 and finally, after going 1-0 down away to Welling United, the Tinners found a way back through Jaze Kabia and Tom Harrison to come away with a 2-1 victory.

Last time we met

The last time we played Truro City was on 8 December 2012. Neither team could find the back of the net as it finished all square at 0-0.

One to watch

Tyler Harvey is one of the most in-form players in the National League South. The 29-year-old midfielder has scored 11 goals in 15 games for the Tinners, making him the leading goal scorer in the league.

The Wood

Luke Garrard’s side will be hoping to get back to winning ways after a painful 1-0 defeat away to Aveley last Saturday. The Wood have now only won one match in their last five, a win which came last week against Farnborough in which goals from Tyrone Marsh, Junior Dixon and Charles Clayden helped us secure all three points.

Before this, the Wood took Leyton Orient all the way to penalties in the First Round Proper of the Emirates FA Cup, but the League One side eventually claimed victory. We weren’t able to take anything away from Eastbourne Borough the week prior, as the Sports scored two second half goals to win the game 2-1. Prior to that, we hosted Hornchurch, where Kwesi Appiah put us ahead in the 28th minute. However, Thomas Wraight’s effort from far out levelled the scoring, earning the Urchins a point.
