Match preview: Aveley (A)

8 November 2024

Tomorrow, Luke Garrard’s men travel to Essex to face Aveley in the Vanarama National League South, with kick-off at 15:00.

Last season for the Millers

It was an impressive first season back in the National League South for Aveley, who reached the play-offs after finishing in seventh place.

Form guide

The Millers have won two of their last five matches in all competitions. Danny Scopes’ side saw out an emphatic victory away at Enfield Town, winning 4-2 in the end. Back-to-back away fixtures meant that Weston-super-Mare was next for the Millers, where despite taking the lead in the 19th minute, they ended up losing the game 4-1.

Next up was the third round of the Essex Senior Cup, where they breezed past Walthamstow in a 4-0 win. Returning to the Parkside Stadium, Aveley hosted Weymouth, with the visitors taking all three points in a 1-0 victory. Most recently, in the Millers’ trip to Worthing, the tie was all square going into stoppage time. However, the Rebels scored late on to take a crucial point away from Danny Scopes’ men.

Last time we met

It’s been a while since our last meeting with tomorrow’s opponents, with our last clash coming in April of 2010. The Wood took a 1-0 victory away from home in the Isthmian Premier play-off semi-final, which followed up by a 2-0 win in the final, sealing promotion to where we find ourselves today.

One to watch

Razzaq Coleman De-Graft has been one of Aveley’s most clinical finishers as of late. The 26-year-old has gotten himself on the scoresheet twice in Aveley’s last five league outings, the goals coming against Enfield Town and Worthing. The winger also bagged a brace in the Millers’ Essex Senior Cup victory away to Walthamstow.

The Wood

Luke Garrard’s side returned to winning ways on Wednesday evening in a 3-1 win at home to Farnborough. Prior to this, it had been a frustrating couple of weeks, including a couple of stalemate draws against Weston-super-Mare and Hornchurch, finishing 0-0 and 1-1 respectively.

A trip to the south coast followed to play an in-form Eastbourne Borough, in a game that saw us take a first half lead, but two second half goals from the hosts meant that we ultimately left empty handed. Returning the Emirates FA Cup for the First Round Proper, Leyton Orient came to the Mangata Pay UK Stadium. After being 2-0 down early in the second half, we managed to claw back level to take the game to extra time and then eventually penalties, where our journey in the competition sadly came to an end.
