FA Cup action returns to the Mangata Pay UK Stadium Meadow Park tomorrow as the Wood face League One side Leyton Orient, kicking off at 14:00.
Last season for the O’s
After sealing promotion in the 2022/23 season, Leyton Orient returned to League One for the first time since 2015. Last season, Richie Wellens’ side finished in 11th place in the third division.
Form guide
The O’s currently sit just outside the relegation zone in 20th place and have won two of their last five matches in all competitions.
Leyton Orient travelled up to Lincoln City at the start of October, where they found themselves 2-0 down until Dan Agyei pulled one back. However, they came away empty handed, losing the game 2-1. Three days later, Richie Wellens’ men hosted Colchester United in the EFL Trophy group stage, where it finished 1-1 after full time, but the O’s went on to win 4-2 on penalties.
Up next, Orient faced Northampton Town away from home, with the hosts edging the game 1-0. Then, returning to Brisbane Road saw the O’s get their third win of the season a 1-0 league victory over Rotherham. Finally, in their most recent outing, a trip to face a strong Wycombe Wanderers side saw the O’s side suffer a 3-0 defeat.
Last time we met
It’s almost been six years since we played Leyton Orient, our last meeting coming in a 1-0 home win in December of 2018. Femi Ilesanmi got on the scoresheet in the fourth minute of the game with an excellent first-time strike, ultimately securing the three points for Luke Garrard’s men.
One to watch
Charlie Kelman has proved to be an important asset for Leyton Orient this season. The QPR loanee has scored four goals in all competitions this season, and has played in every match thus far.
The Wood
The Wood have taken two wins, played out two draws and suffered one loss from the last five matches. We travelled to Wiltshire to face Chippenham Town, where Kwesi Appiah’s goal earned us all three points on the road. Up next was the final FA Cup qualifying round, where we overcame Carshalton Athletic in an emphatic 4-0 victory. Returning to Vanarama National League South action, we faced an in-form Weston-super-Mare side away from home, where the points were shared in a goalless draw.
Four days later we hosted Hornchurch, where after going ahead in the first half courtesy of Kwesi Appiah, the Urchins drew level from Tom Wraight’s long range effort. Finally, in our previous outing, Erico Sousa converted a first half penalty to put us 1-0 up away to Eastbourne Borough. However, two second half goals from the Sports meant that we suffered our first defeat since the return of Luke Garrard to the dugout. His side will no doubt be looking to respond tomorrow afternoon with a classic FA Cup upset.
