Match preview: Eastbourne Borough (A)

25 October 2024

The Wood take a trip to the south coast tomorrow afternoon to face Eastbourne Borough at the ReachTV Stadium, with kick-off at 15:00.

Last season for the Sports

Last season, Eastbourne finished in 19th place in the National League South. The appointment of Adam Murray as manager in January helped the Sports stay out of the relegation zone, whilst also finishing the season strong, which they have built on this season.

Form guide

Currently sixth in the National League South, Adam Murray’s men have had an impressive start to the season. The Sports travelled to Chelmsford at the start of the month, where they came away empty handed after a 4-2 loss. Following that, In the Sussex Senior Cup, our opponents hosted Little Common in a straightforward 3-0 victory to progress to the third round of the competition. Up next was a trip to Welling United, where a George Alexander penalty in the fifth minute was enough to secure all three points for Adam Murray’s side.

In their next match against Torquay United, the Sports took the lead in the 33rd minute through a strike from George Alexander. However, the visitors equalised three minutes later and the points to be shared. Finally, they travelled to West London to face Hampton & Richmond, where Alexander scored once again, but it wasn’t enough in the end as the hosts scored three second half goals to win 3-1.

Last time we met

This is our second meeting with the Sports this season due to facing them in second round qualifying of the FA Cup. Junior Dixon secured the winner on the day as we progressed in the competition with a 1-0 victory at the ReachTV Stadium.

One to watch

George Alexander hasn’t been shy of scoring lately, scoring six in his last five matches in all competitions. The 24-year-old joined the Sports from Chelmsford City in the summer after bagging nine goals for the Clarets last season.

The Wood

The Wood haven’t lost a match since the return of Luke Garrard as manager, who kicked off his second stint in the dugout with a 1-0 victory against tomorrow’s opponents. We’ve won three of our last five matches in all competitions, with two of those victories coming in FA Cup qualifying. We’ve shared the points in our last two games coming against Weston-super-Mare and Hornchurch, finishing 0-0 and 1-1 respectively.
