Our 24/25 FA Cup journey gets underway tomorrow as we travel to the south coast to face fellow National League South side Eastbourne Borough. It’s also Luke Garrard’s first game back as manager after stepping down at the end of the 23/24 campaign.

The Wood come into this game sitting in 10th place, after we grabbed a late equaliser away at Hampton & Richmond Eastbourne have had a great start to the season in 2nd place

The Sports have had a flying start to the season, winning 5, drawing 2 and only losing 1 in their opening fixtures.

Adam Murray’s side faced Aveley on match day 4, in a game which saw his side concede an early own goal. However, they managed to rectify this through goals coming from Daniel Quick and Finn Ballard-McBride.

A trip along the south coast to Weymouth was up next for The Sports. it was all square going into the break, but Siyabonga Ligendza managed to break the deadlock

Up next, Eastbourne hosted Dorking Wanderers in what turned out to be a thrilling contest. The Sports were trailing in the 30th minute to a Matthew Briggs goal, however they found an equaliser soon after the break with a Jayden Davis strike. The hosts conceded again and Dorking looked nailed on to seal the win, but The Sports found a dramatic equaliser right at the death in the 98th minute as Will Harley found the back of the net.

A couple of 1-0 victories came for The Sports next. Alfie Pavey earned Eastbourne all 3 points as Enfield visited Priory Lane. Then, last weekend, The Sports edged to a 1-0 victory away at Truro City, with Pavey scoring again in the 56th minute.

The centre forward has had an excellent start to the season, managing to get 3 goals and 1 assist in the opening 8 games. Pavey joined The Sports from Woking in the summer on a free transfer, and clearly is enjoying his football down on the south coast, and he is someone who can cause defenders problems.
