The Wood secured a hard-fought victory over Truro City, with Charles Clayden’s second-half goal proving decisive in a tightly contested game.

Luke Garrard made two changes from Saturday’s defeat away to Aveley. Femi Ilesanmi made way for the Jack Payne’s return to skippering the side while Josh Hare also featured in the starting eleven, seeing Tyrone Marsh drop to the bench.

The Wood looked sharp from the outset, with Tom Whelan creating the first chance in the fifth minute, lofting a superb ball into the box for Lee Ndlovu, who narrowly missed the connection. Minutes later, Josh Hare sent a ball towards Kwesi Appiah, only for a Truro defender to intercept and put it out for a corner. Appiah tested the Tinners keeper with a long-range effort in the 11th minute, but Dan Lavercombe saved comfortably.

Truro City responded with some pressure of their own. In the 16th minute, Jaze Kabia launched a powerful shot from distance that seemed destined for the top corner, but Nathan Ashmore’s acrobatic save kept the score level. Moments later, Yassine En-Neyah cut inside and drilled a shot toward the bottom corner, only for Ashmore to make another impressive stop.

The first half continued with both teams creating chances but struggling to find a breakthrough. Whelan and Jayden both tested Lavercombe, while a brilliant sliding tackle from Jayden thwarted Truro’s counterattack down the left. Just before halftime, Ndlovu found himself in a good position to score but dragged his shot wide, leaving the game goalless at the break.

HT: Boreham Wood 0-0 Truro City

The Wood broke the deadlock shortly after halftime, Charles Clayden capitalising on a chance with a composed finish to put Wood ahead in the 48th minute, sparking great celebrations from the home crowd. Minutes later, the Wood had strong penalty appeals waved away after a collision in the box.

As Truro City pushed for an equaliser, Ashmore continued to shine. In the 57th minute, he made another acrobatic save to keep the Tinners at bay. The game grew increasingly scrappy as Truro pressed, while Wood focused on preserving their narrow lead. A late cross from Josh Hare in the 76th minute couldn’t quite find its target.

With four minutes of stoppage time added, the Wood stayed resilient and saw out the game. A 1-0 win over the Tinners makes it two consecutive wins at the Mangata Pay UK Stadium Meadow Park for Luke Garrard’s side, taking the Wood two points off the play-off places with a game or two in hand over the sides currently occupying them. The lads will no doubt be hoping to continue this positive run of home form against Isthmian League North side, Felixstowe & Walton United in the ISUZU FA Trophy this coming Saturday.
