Boreham Wood and Tonbridge Angels played out a 1-1 draw in a game where Wood had to come from behind to equalise. Ryan Hanson’s goal for the visitors was quickly cancelled out by an equaliser from Lee Ndlovu in the second half.

Luke Garrard made one change to the starting line-up from last Saturday’s win against Chesham United, with Charles Clayden returning from injury to start at left wing-back, and Femi Ilesanmi replacing Charlie O’Connell in the back three.

Boreham Wood controlled the exchanges in the first half and got off to a fast start when Jon Benton’s cross was forced onto the crossbar by Angels’ keeper Matt Rowley in the second minute. Kwesi Appiah forced a good save from Rowley five minutes later with a well-struck volley.

A torrential downpour then started, impacting the quality of most of the first half. Wood continued to dominate possession but were unable to create anything else until the 37th minute, when a lovely turn and shot from Jayden Richardson forced a good save from Rowley, who had to be at full stretch to keep it out.

The second half was a much better game. The visitors showed a lot more attacking intent at the start of the period, and Liam Vincent registered their first shot of the match seven minutes after the restart, striking a free kick just wide of Nathan Ashmore’s goal. Two minutes later, Ashmore spilled a Vincent cross, but fortunately, Wood were able to clear.

On 55 minutes, a Richardson cross fell into the path of Appiah, but Wood’s top scorer just failed to connect. Nine minutes later, a good move down the left involving Clayden and Jon Benton ended with Appiah firing into the side netting. A minute later, Jack Payne fired over from outside the area.

The visitors took the lead against the run of play in the 71st minute when a Vincent cross was fumbled by Ashmore, allowing Ryan Hanson to fire home from close range. Wood equalised five minutes later with an excellent left-foot finish from Lee Ndlovu.

Wood then pressed for the winner. Tom Whelan came close in the 83rd minute with a long-range shot that was well saved by Rowley. Three minutes later, Whelan was just off target, this time from the edge of the area. In the first minute of added time, Vincent struck a free kick straight at Ashmore.

It was two points dropped for Boreham Wood, who weren’t at their best. However, they showed good spirit to come from behind and equalise. With Enfield Town away on Boxing Day, Luke Garrard will expect his side to get back to winning ways.
