WOOD FALL TO DEFEAT

Boreham Wood succumb to a shock defeat in Wiltshire against a determined Salisbury, having been a goal to the good at half time through an Erico Sousa penalty before second half goals from Craig Fasanmade and Ronan Silva secured the points for the hosts.

Ross Jenkins made five changes to starting line up from Saturday’s win against Weymouth with David Agbontohoma coming in for his first start of the season in place of Chris Bush at centre back. Femi Ilesamni replaced Charles Clayden at left back, Mo Sagaf in place of Tyrone Marsh in midfield, Lee Ndlovu coming in for Junior Dixon up front and Jonny Goddard replacing Abdul Abdulmalik.

FIRST HALF

In a quiet opening, Boreham Wood controlled a lot of early possession without really threatening although on six minutes, an Erico Sousa free kick was played just out of Mo Sagaf’s reach. Twelve minutes later some good interplay between Tom Whelan and Femi Ilesamni, created a chance for Mo Sagaf but he scuffed his shot. The Whites then started to grow into the game and on twenty-three minutes a purposeful run from Jordan Ragguette and a cross caused havoc in the Wood defence before they were able to get it away. A minute later Jaden Perez fired just wide for the hosts.

On twenty-eight minutes, Mo Sagaf’s shot is deflected wide. Three minutes later, a Perez shot was well blocked by Charlie O’Connell in the six-yard box. On thirty-six minutes, David Agbontohoma had a good chance to score but fired wide when well placed. Two minutes later, Boreham Wood took the lead when Lee Ndlovu was fouled in the penalty area by Whites keeper Ryan Gosney and Erico Sousa sent the Salisbury keeper the wrong way. Just before the break Perez fired wide from a tight angle for the hosts.

HALF TIME: BOREHAM WOOD 1 WEYMOUTH 0

The visitors came out for the second half with a spring in their step and two minutes after the restart they got their equaliser. A lovely pass from Josh Hedges picked out Fasanmade who finished well with a well struck first time shot. On fifty-four minutes Sousa nearly drew Boreham Wood level with some excellent footwork and a well struck shot which was well saved by Gosney. Large parts of the second half were played in the Boreham Wood half as the Whites had lots of possession. Raguette went close on sixty-seven minutes but fire wide from a good position.

Four minutes later, two of Salisbury’s substitutes combined to give Salisbury the lead. A good pass from Gerson Ramos picked out Ronan Silva who made no mistake from close range. It was no more than the hosts deserved. Even after the second goal Wood were unable to produce anything for a long period. With the clock ticking down, Tom Whelan crossed the ball to Tyrone Marsh but he couldn’t keep his volley down. In the final minute of stoppage time a Cameron Coxe cross richoched into the path of Marsh who’s first shot struck the post before he fired wide with the rebound.

FULL-TIME: BOREHAM WOOD 3 WEYMOUTH 0

It was a disappointing afternoon for Boreham Wood as they were unbale to reproduce the quality of Saturday’s performance. The numerous changes to the starting line-up appeared to have an effect the performance. Ross Jenkins will want to get his side back to winning ways next Saturday against Maidstone United
