Boreham Wood Football Club are delighted to announce the arrival of 21-year-old defender Charlie O’Connell from League One club, Peterborough United for an undisclosed fee.
Charlie becomes the 3rd new face through the door this summer. The 21 year old is a versatile young footballer who can play as a central defender, right back and a centre midfielder, O’Connell came through as a product of the West Ham United academy before joining Peterborough United in 2019.
At Peterborough Utd, O’Connell continued to impress, captaining the u18 and u21 sides before making his debut as a substitute in a 4-1 win against Doncaster Rovers in League One on the 9th May 2021.
Despite not finding many first team minutes with the Posh, O’Connell has gained invaluable experience with a number of loans. A short loan to Kettering Town back in 2021-22, before joining National League side Woking on three separate occasions during both the 2022-23 season and 2023-24. After his spells at Woking, the young defender had a short spell at Hampton & Richmond before finishing the season at Ross Jenkins’ Oxford City.
Upon his arrival, Ross Jenkins stated that “I’m delighted to have Charlie O’Connell on board, he’s a player who will add quality, versatility and professionalism to the group. I’m very much looking forward to working with Charlie this season and I’m sure he will fit in nicely.”
