Boreham Wood 1-1 Kidderminster Harriers
Mangata Pay UK Stadium Meadow Park
26th December 3.00pm, Vanarama National League
In a match in which Boreham Wood were in total control, they had to make do with a draw against bottom of the table Kidderminster Harriers when Ashley Hemmings equalised from the spot for the visitors in stoppage time after Billy Sass-Davies game Wood a second half lead. Luke Garrard made two changes following Saturday’s defeat at Barnet with Charles Clayden at the back and Mo Sagaf coming in for Angela Balanta in midfield.
In a quiet opening period, play was kept very much in the visitor’s half with Wood controlling possession. Tyrone Marsh’s shot was deflected wide on five minutes with Erico Sousa going close a couple of minutes later. Charles Clayden also, went close to scoring a spectacular goal on fifteen minutes, but his curling effort went just wide.
The visitors then tightened up at the back with Krystian Pearce and Matt Preston doing well to restrict, the Wood forward line for the rest of the half. On the stroke of half time, Harriers midfielder Jack Lambert fired just wide with a excellent volley with Nathan Ashmore beaten.
HALF TIME: BOREHAM WOOD 0-0 KIDDERMINSTER HARRIERS
Boreham Wood came out for the second half full of renewed purpose, and forced a succession of early corner. From one of these corners, Matt Robinson let fly from distance, but former Wrexham keeper Christian Dibble produced a good save. From another corner on fifty minutes, Billy Sass-Davies produced a towering header to give Wood a well-deserved lead.
Following the goal, Boreham Wood pressed for a second, and the dangerous Erico Sousa was denied by Dibble on fifty-eight minutes. While Wood appeared to take their foot off the gas after this, they still looked in total control of the match. Lambert tested Ashmore on eighty minutes, but the Wood keeper made a comfortable save. Just when it looked like Boreham Wood would hold on for the three points, former Wood defender Krystian Pearce was fouled in the penalty area and Ashley Hemmings stepped up to send Ashmore the wrong way, securing a precious point for Harriers
It was disappointing result for Boreham Wood against one of their rivals at the wrong end of the Vanarama National League table, especially given the circumstances of the match. Boreham Wood and Kidderminster Harriers will try again at the Aggborough Stadium on Saturday where Luke Garrard will want all three points this time.
