PREVIEW

The Wood welcome Southend Utd tomorrow afternoon on the back of an impressive performance on Tuesday where we came away 3-1 winners. However, the Shrimpers are also on the back of some impressive form having beaten Solihull Moors 5-0 last Saturday and then backing that up with another impressive 3-0 win at home to Ebbsfleet.

They currently sit in 14th position on 20 points, however if it wasn’t for their 10-point deduction earlier in the season, they would be sitting on 30 points and in 5th position.

FORM GUIDE

Southend Utd – W-W-L-W-W

In the League Southend Utd are on the back of four wins and four clean sheets in a row, however within those four games, they did exit the FA Cup after losing 2-0 to Yeovil Town.

They started the month of October with a 2-0 win at home to Oxford City thanks to two first half goals from Cardwell and Wood. The following week they travelled to Woking and once again came away 2-0 winners. The goals were scored by Harry Cardwell in the first half, and Gus Scott-Morriss in the second half to secure all three points.

Their next league fixture came on Saturday 21st October when they welcomed Solihull Moors to Roots Hall, a side that was sitting third in the National League. However, it was a dominant display from the Shrimpers who came away 5-0 winners thanks to the young loanee, Daniel Kanu who scored 4 goals.

They then followed up the dominant result by beating Ebbsfleet 3-0 at home on Tuesday evening, goals coming from Coker, Scott-Morriss and Jack Wood.

ONES TO WATCH?

Daniel Kanu joined the club on a short-term loan from Charlton Athletic at the beginning of this month. The teenager scored three times for the Addicks’ first team at the start of the 2023/24 campaign, including two in League One.

Kanu joined Charlton at under-11 level and signed his first professional deal in February 2022, going on to score his first goal for them in the EFL Trophy nine months later. He has hit the ground running for the Shrimpers having scored 4 goals in his first 3 games, with all of his goals coming against Solihull Moors in an impressive 5-0 win.
