MATCH PREVIEW: OLDHAM ATHLETIC (H)

25 August 2023

Boreham Wood v Oldham Athletic

Saturday 26 August, 2023, 3.00pm
Mangata Pay UK Stadium Meadow Park, Vanarama National League

PREVIEW

Tomorrow Afternoon we welcome David Unsworth’s side to the Mangata Pay UK Stadium, as we look to get back to winning ways after two games without a win. Oldham Athletic have had a positive summer of recruiting bringing in the dangerous and experienced expertise of James Norwood who played 42 games last season in League one scoring on 11 occasions last season.

Last season was disappointing for the Latics as they finished in 12th position and even at one stage were in a relegation battle which in the end, they comfortably avoided winning four of their last five games to finish their campaign strong. The Wood had a very positive return against the Latics last year beating them at home in December thanks to a last-minute Lee Ndlovu goal and then again winning at Boundary Park thanks to a brilliant strike from Jack Payne and a late header from Dennon Lewis to put the game to bed.

This season OIdham have key individuals who can win games on their own the likes of Norwood, Dickenson, Sheron and Hogan. They’ve already proved they can score goals putting five past Aldershot Town in game week 2. The Wood will need to make sure that they contain the individual threats that the Latics possess if they want to come away with three points.

FORM GUIDE

Boreham Wood- D-W-L-D

We welcomed Solihull Moors to the Mangata Pay UK Stadium Meadow Park on Wednesday evening, the Wood started slow and went into the break trailing thanks to a header from the dangerous Mark Beck, the visitors doubled their advantage in the second half when Jamey Osborne fired in from range. The Wood looked to get back into the game when Agbontohoma scored his first goal for the club but unfortunately it wasn’t enough, and the Moors took all three points.

Last Saturday we travelled up to Altrincham and once again we trailed at the break, this time however seemed like more of a challenge to get back into due to losing three centre midfielders with injuries. However, in true Boreham Wood fashion we found a way back into the game thanks to Lee Ndlovu scoring his first of the season after some brilliant work by Femi Ilesanmi down the left-hand side to ensure we came back to Meadow Park with a point.

Oldham Athletic- L-W-L-D

Oldham have had an intriguing start to the campaign, they were shocked on opening day losing 4-0 to a Southend Utd side that has had lots of issues off the pitch. However, they responded brilliantly by putting five past Aldershot Town the following weeks with goals coming from Tollitt and then both Norwood and Dickenson scoring twice.

They then welcomed Halifax Town to Boundary Park, after going 1-0 down, Mark Shelton equalised before the break. However, the visitors took all three points thanks to Adam Senior’s goal in the second half.

The Latics then travelled to the Technique Stadium to face a strong Chesterfield side, the game was broadcasted live on TNT Sport. Chesterfield took the lead thanks to a goal from Ashley Palmer in the 61st minute. It seemed that Chesterfield would take all three points, but James Norwood equalised at the death sending the away crowd into ruptures.

That point means that Oldham now sit in 15th heading into tomorrow’s fixture.

PLAYED FOR BOTH – TIMMY ABRAHAM

Timmy Abraham was our first signing announcement this Summer after the completion of his contract with ___. However, he spent last season on loan with the Latics, Timmy made 15 appearances for them last year and scored on two occasions.

This year Timmy hasn’t been able to get going after looking lively in pre-season scoring against Brentford in front of the North Bank. Opening day against Gateshead Timmy received a red card for a foul on the keeper, the forward has now served his three-game ban and will be available for selection once again.

HAVEN’T WE MET BEFORE?

Last season at Meadow Park, the Wood picked up all three points thanks to a Lee Ndlovu brace with his second goal being a last-minute winner, watch the highlights here:
