LAST TIME WE MET
Boreham Wood 2-0 Altrincham
Tuesday 15th February 2022
LV BET Stadium Meadow Park, Vanarama National League
The Wood bounced back from defeat to overcome Altrincham, as goals from Kane Smith and Scott Boden secured a 2-0 win.
It was Altrincham who dominated the opening stages with Matty Koslyo testing Taye Ashby-Hammond after just two minutes when he volleyed goalward following a corner, before two chances for Ryan Colclough in quick succession saw him denied by the Wood keeper as well. The Wood began to grow into it and began to test Tony Thompson in the Alty goal with a handful of half chances, before making the upturn in their performance count when Smith’s long-range effort took a wild deflection to beat an already committed Thompson and secure a fortuitous opener.
Neither side was able to find a way past their opposing keeper as Tyrone Marsh and A-Jay Letch-Smith went close, but the second began with an excellent chance for the hosts as Connor Stevens’ header almost beat Thompson, before Boden fired wide when well-placed. He would soon make amends though, sticking out a leg to convert Smith’s drilled cross just three minutes later. The visitors enjoyed a positive end to the game as they refused to give up without a fight, with Elliot Osborne and Jordan Hulme going close late on. It was the latter’s strike which beat Ashby-Hammond, demanding a last ditch clearance from Smith to keep the two goal cushion and secure all three points.
