6 April 2022

Dagenham & Redbridge 0 – 0 Boreham Wood
Tuesday 5th April 2022
Chigwell Construction Stadium, Vanarama National League

DEADLOCK IN EAST LONDON

Boreham Wood had to settle for a draw against a workmanlike Dagenham and Redbridge side, but Luke Garrard’s men were vastly improved from Saturday’s disappointing defeat against Woking.

Boreham Wood made three changes from Saturday with Conor Stevens replacing David Stephens at the back, James Comley replacing Frankie Raymond in midfield and Scott Boden replacing Danilo Orsi up front.

In a quiet opening to the match, it was the home side who dominated possession against a lacklustre Boreham Wood but despite lots of probing by Mauro Vilhete and Junior Morias, the Wood defence marshalled by the excellent Conor Steven, held firm. It was the visitors who had the first meaningful chance of the on twenty-six minutes when good build up play between Josh Rees and Scott Boden created an opportunity for Tyrone Marsh who fired over the bar. Daggers forward Paul McCallum then shot just wide of Taye Ashby-Hammond’s goal when well placed. In the period leading up to the interval Wood started to play better. Gus Mafuta’s shot from distance went just over and shortly afterwards, Marsh also missed the target. Just before the break, Scott Boden forced an outstanding save from Daggers keeper Elliot Justham.

HT: Dagenham & Redbridge 0 – 0 Boreham Wood

The second half started in the same vein as the first with little activity and the home side again dominating possession but creating little. It was Boreham Wood who created the first chance of the half, on the hour mark when Josh Rees forced a save from Justham. A minute later, former Wood forward Morias forced a good save from Ashby-Hammond when his shot looked like going in at the far corner. On sixty-four minutes Rees headed just over and four minutes later an outstanding block by Manny Onariase prevented a certain goal from Scott Boden. On seventy-nine minutes Boden had another chance but curled his shot just wide. A minute later Marsh went close again for Wood. On eighty-three minutes the host were unlucky not to get a penalty when Morias appeared to be fouled in the box but fortunately for Boreham Wood, the referee waved play on. In the end, a draw was a fair result.

FT: Dagenham & Redbridge 0 – 0 Boreham Wood

It was a much better performance then Saturday against Woking, but Wood are now seven Vanarama National League games without victory and haven’t scored in five games. Luke Garrard will be looking for his side to get back to winning ways on Saturday against an out of form Aldershot Town
