WOOD LAND CONNOR STEVENS TRANSFER AHEAD OF HISTORIC FA CUP ENCOUNTER

4 February 2022

Boreham Wood FC are delighted to announce the signing of defender Connor Stevens from National League rivals Wealdstone FC for an undisclosed fee. Connor arrives at the LV BET Stadium on a two-and-a-half year contract until the end of the 2023/24 season.

Connor began his career with Hertfordshire neighbours Watford, coming through the youth ranks at Vicarage Road to feature for the Hornet’s under 18’s and under 23’s sides.

A loan spell with National League South side Oxford City during the 2017/18 season preceded a permanent transfer to then-National League South outfit Wealdstone in the summer of 2018 following his departure from Vicarage Road.

In his first season at Grosvenor Vale, Stevens helped the Stones reach the end of season play-offs, eventually losing out to play-off winners Woking in the semi-finals following a comfortable 3-1 victory over Bath City in the eliminator match.

Just a season later though, Wealdstone and Stevens went one step further, clinching the Stones return to Non-League football’s top table as Champions of the National League South on a points per game basis following the curtailment of the 2019/20 season due the COVID-19 pandemic.

Upon departing Grosvenor Vale, Stevens links up with former Stones teammates Dennon Lewis, Jacob Mendy Mendy and Connor Smith as Wood look to continue to mount a promotion push in the second half of the season.

Having not played in Wealdstone’s 2-1 Emirates FA Cup 4th Qualifying Round defeat at the hands of Dagenham & Redbridge back in mid-October, subject to FA clearances, Stevens will be available to be included in Garrard’s match day squad as Wood travel to AFC Bournemouth this Sunday in the FA Cup 4th Round Proper at the Vitality Stadium.

Wood Chairman Danny Hunter said, “Luke has been after Connor for quite a while, so we have monitored things for months, and moved quickly when we realised the player who was out of contract at the end of the season might be interested and thankfully both clubs were able to reach an agreement amicably that was fair for all parties. I’d genuinely like to thank Wealdstone for their pragmatic approach and professional attitude throughout, and wish them and their supporters good luck for the remainder of the season.”

Connor will wear the number 24 shirt with the Wood.

Welcome to the LV Bet Stadium Meadow Park, Connor!
