LOCAL SUPPORT COMES IN MANY FORMS

8 June 2021

After realising that the Club would lose its main sponsors Barnet & Southgate College around Christmas time, there had been a bit of anxiety around the Club on how the loss of that type of commercial income could be replaced, especially in the present financial climate, and how that might affect our First Team budget.

Well, local support comes in many forms and “cometh the hour cometh the man”, as ‘Wood Army’ veteran and long-time supporter of the Club, Alan Swan, stepped forward as an individual to fill our main shirt sponsorship void for the next two seasons…

Alan has always been a very supportive fan of the Club and an extremely willing participant in everything that might help out our Club and with our community initiatives over many years.

Wood Chairman Danny Hunter said, “In truth, I’m gob smacked by this incredibly selfless gesture. Alan is not only a true Wood supporter but has been a true ‘Wood Army’ veteran, who has travelled with us the length and breadth of the country, on our minibuses, on the trains and with our away day travel club and it’s members over many, many years…

“In that time, he’s become a great friend to the Football Club, our staff and become a personal friend to both me and my partner. Importantly, he’s also in that time become a selfless supporter of our community, who cares passionately about its welfare and its well-being and we share that love for all things local.

“I can tell Alan and the ‘Wood Army’, that every penny Alan has donated to replace the main shirt sponsorship will now go straight into Luke Garrard’s first team budget and be spent solely on improving our squad for next season and the new ‘Wood Army’ brand/logo will now go on both the home and away shirts.

“In truth, I had already budgeted without any main shirt sponsorship income coming in for this season, so again, on behalf of myself and everyone associated with Boreham Wood Football Club, can I thank Alan for his generosity, his kindness and his friendship” Hunter concluded.

A very happy Alan Swan said, “I’ve got to know both the Chairman and his partner Mandee Morris well over the years and they’ve never failed to make me feel a real part of the Club. I’ve also made so many special friends within both the Wood Army and around the Town, and if I can help in any small way then of course I’m delighted to do so…

“If my contribution allows the Manager Luke Garrard to perhaps improve the squad just a little for the next two seasons then I feel that I’ve played my part in my Club’s progress moving forward and I wish Danny, Luke and the dressing room nothing but future success.” Alan concluded.

Wood Army, please join us in showing our sincere gratitude to Alan for this incredible gesture that will see your brand on the front of our home and away shirts for the next two seasons!

OUR CLUB. OUR TOWN. OUR COMMUNITY.
