WOOD COME AWAY WITH A POINT

Woking 0-0 Boreham Wood
Tuesday 9th March 2021, 7.45pm
Laithwaite Community Stadium, Vanarama National League

In a disappointing encounter, Boreham Wood came away with a point following a goalless drew against a Woking side who had very much the better of things over the ninety minutes.

Wood made two changes to the starting line-up from Saturday’s draw at Dagenham & Redbridge with David Stephens coming in for Krystian Pearce and Keiran Murtagh starting instead of Shaq Coulthirst. The host’s showed their intent from the off and Max Kretzschmar nearly put the Cards in front after two minutes but was denied by an excellent block on the line from Femi Ilesamni. It was the Cards forward Jamar Loza who almost gave them the lead after eighteen minutes but was denied by a good save from Nathan Ashmore while in a one on one. Boreham Wood’s only half chance of the first period fell to Corey Whitely at forty-one minutes but his effort whistled past Craig Ross’s goal.

The second half was more of the same. On fifty-three minutes, the dangerous Loza had another one on one with Ashmore but this time he screwed his shot wide. An excellent Sam Ashford free kick was headed just over by Ben Gerring twenty minutes later. followed ten minutes later by Jayden Wareham who was denied by a fantastic save from Ashmore who tipped his acrobatic effort over the bar. Woking will feel as though they should have snatched it on ninety-two minutes as Moussa Diarra headed just over Ashmore’s goal when it looked like he would score.

In the end it was a good point for Boreham Wood and Woking will feel they should have won it. However, Wood did display an excellent defensive performance where they withstood a lot of Woking pressure in front of Ashmore’s goal. The ageless Mark Ricketts was tremendous against his old club, as well as being a real presence in front of the back four. He was a very positive influence on the side as a whole.
