WOOD SHOW INTENT WITH ASHMORE COUP

29 July 2020

Boreham Wood FC are delighted to announce the permanent signing of highly rated goalkeeper Nathan Ashmore on a 2-year deal following the expiration of his contract at Ebbsfleet United.

Nathan, who started out at Havant & Waterlooville making his first team debut in 2008 following a youth career with Portsmouth. In 2011, Nathan had a loan spell at Gosport Borough, and after some impressive performances the move was made permanent.

In his 5 years at Gosport, he helped them gain successive promotions to get to the National League South, as well as a trip to Wembley in the FA Trophy Final.

Ashmore was then snapped up by Ebbsfleet United, helping them gain promotion to the National League. Since then, Nathan amassed over 170 appearances for the Fleet and won the Supporter’s Player of the Season award two years in a row.

Following his arrival at the Wood in October 2019 there has been no coincidence in the sides return to form and confidence. As Nathan’s commanding presence gave the dressing room renewed confidence, that coincided with the Wood back line giving a string of fine performances, which saw the Wood rise into the play-off places before the season was curtailed.

Despite a relatively short spell with the Club to date, Nathan has already firmly established himself as a firm fans favourite with the “Wood Army” and there is no doubt the supporters will be delighted the Club have turned his loan spell into a permanent contract at Meadow Park.

On getting the deal over the line, Chairman Danny Hunter said, “Nathan was signed on a hunch that we could get the best out of him and he could get the best out of us. I’m happy that hunch has been proved correct and in truth it’s turned out wonderfully for all parties.

“That said, he’s brought much more to our table as a human being, as he’s caring, he’s professional, he’s very likeable and he’s hugely, hugely popular with the players, the staff and the supporters. So, I’m just pleased to be able to back Luke, back Nathan and back the dressing room with getting this deal done, as I believe this signing shows that we are still quietly ambitious and hungry to succeed even after our recent play off defeat.

Upon Nathan’s signing, Gaffer Luke Garrard said, “Nathan was a huge signing and played a massive part last season, so to have him on board with us for the next two years is a huge coup. Nathan brings a wealth of experience on the pitch, but as a person off of it he is a massive plus, too. I honestly believe he is one of best keepers at the level and the stats since he joined us in October backs that up. I’m very grateful to the Chairman for backing me, and to do this business so early after our season finished shows the intent we have at this Football Club.”

Welcome back to Meadow Park, Nathan!
