The Boreham Wood Community Trust in partnership with Boreham Wood FC and The National League Trust, were delighted to host our annual Borehamwood Day Centre and local Mencap group Christmas Dinner last Friday, 6th December, which was enjoyed by all involved.

The day was an extraordinary success with over 70 people present including, the local day centre and Mencap groups, their carers and also players and staff of Boreham Wood FC. Everyone enjoyed a truly festive afternoon at Meadow Park with a full Christmas Dinner, all the trimmings and a lovely chocolate cake to finish.

All this wonderful food was prepared and made by the fantastic Catering Manager at Boreham Wood FC May Mason and her incredible team, whilst the serving side of things was looked after by a large contingent of Boreham Wood FC staff, most notably BWFC First Team Manager Luke Garrard on gravy boat duty, and everything ran excellently with all attendees loving every bit of their meal.

The day would not have been possible without the hard work and preparation of the BWFC Chairman Danny Hunter, Commercial Executive Mandee Morris and Bar Manager Jodie Lillywhite, to name but a few. A special mention must also go to all the BWFC First Team players and management team who helped ensure the day was magical for everyone in attendance from both local groups.

Following the meal, there was a surprise visit from Santa Claus who of course had gifts for all members of the day centre and Mencap groups, which was enough to make their day, but the fun didn’t stop there… We also played ‘pass the parcel’ which led to some friendly competition among all involved, which brought fun, smiles and laughter to the whole room.

Academy Manager Cameron Mawer, who coaches the weekly sessions with the day centre and Mencap groups, had this to say about the afternoon, “I thought the afternoon was fantastic, to see so many happy faces and so many memories made was a real thrill!”

Pete Hardwick, the Assistant Manager of the Borehamwood Day Centre sent us this kind message following the dinner…

“What a great afternoon everyone has obviously had, and what a fantastic amount of effort the club has put in to organising it all, thank you so much.

“Our guys came back having had a great time (and not just because of the presents!) The various players and club members have yet again been so supportive to us all and it really is very much appreciated. Please pass our thanks on to everyone at club, and of course the Chairman.

“We wish everyone a lovely Christmas, and thank you Cameron for all your patience, support and hard work.”

Community Manager Connor Smith commented on the event, “The day was very special. The thought and hard work that has gone into the organisation has been magnificent from everyone involved at Boreham Wood FC.

Smith continued, “The joy and excitement on the faces of everybody in attendance was an amazing sight and one that will stay with me, and I’m sure, with all players and staff that were a part of the day, for a very long time. There were multiple heart-warming speeches from a number of the day centre and Mencap groups, and these really made everyone understand how much this day, and our continued activities with the groups, means to the participants and their carers alike.

Smith concluded, “We all look forward to being able to host more days like these with the help of the funding we receive not only from the Chairman but the National League Trust and a massive thank you again to all my fellow staff, who without them, none of this would of been possible.”
