Tomorrow evening, Boreham Wood make their longest trip of the season in the Vanarama National League as they travel to 5th place Barrow. Both sides are on good form after respectively winning their games by one goal in their most recent fixture on Saturday against tough opposition.
Boreham Wood were persistent in their recent home fixture which saw them come out 1-0 victors against Solihull Moors, with Tyrone Marsh scoring a 94th minute winner. Whereas Barrow were triumphant against league leaders Bromley in a 2-1 victory away from home.
THE CONTEXT
Boreham Wood come into this game on the back of two wins in their last two games their first back-to-back wins of the season. Hard work from the Wood eventually paid off in Saturday’s game when Tyrone Marsh’s 94th minute shot on the turn caught the keeper off guard to seal the victory for the home side.
Barrow were impressive on the road in their last fixture which saw them beat league leaders Bromley. This was a rare sight for the home fans only seeing their side lose twice so far in the Vanarama National League, an impressive victory for Barrow.

Barrow sit 5th place in the Vanarama National League after an inspiring away win to Bromley in their recent game, and enter Tuesday night’s fixture as THE in form side in the league.
Ian Evatt will be looking to extend his sides six game winning streak on Tuesday night. The former Blackpool player will be looking to Scott Quigley and John Rooney for goals as they sit 3rd and 4th in the league top scorer standings respectively.
Barrow are currently the leagues joint highest scoring team with 26 goals in the 15 games. It’s been a season of two halves for Barrow as they have seen a major change in form winning all of their last six games, having only won two in their nine previous fixtures.

John Rooney, Midfield
Barrow’s John Rooney has been in fine form in the Vanarama National League, netting seven times during the month of September, seeing him win the National League Player of the Month award.
John Rooney, brother of Wayne, has been vital to Barrow’s recent run of form chipping in with crucial goals from the midfield. Rooney is the 4th top scorer in the Vanarama National League, an impressive stat from the creative midfielder.

Barrow 1-2 Boreham Wood (Saturday 30th March 2019, National League)
The away victory for Boreham Wood increased their hopes of avoiding relegation from the National League.
Keiran Murtagh scored an emphatic free kick from over 25 yards out after Tom Champion was fouled in the 19th minute.
It was from another dead ball situation from which Wood would double their advantage, as Justin Shaibu converted comfortably from the penalty spot.
However only three minutes later, Jack Hindle got one back for Barrow after his shot slotted past George Legg into the Boreham Wood net.
A late enslaught from Barrow was fended off by the courageous Wood defence, who put their bodies on the line on numerous occasions to stop Barrow from clinching a late equaliser. The victory for Boreham Wood was only their second in 15 games prior, moving them nine points away from the relegation zone and on the brink of safety.

Midfield technician Keiran Murtagh is our player ‘in focus’ in this week’s match preview for our trip to Barrow. Murtagh was voted as the Man of The Match in Saturday’s home win against Solihull Moors by our match sponsor Regianni after a commanding performance for the Wood from the centre of the park.
Boreham Wood’s number ten has been a real asset to Luke Garrard in recent weeks as he has been able to get forward helping the front through from deep, helping Wood to climb to 3rd in the form table after taking 13 points from our last six games.
With a long trip up North to contend with, the select Wood Army who brave the journey and conditions would love to see another expert Murtagh free kick. In our last trip to Barrow last season, Murtagh scored arguably Wood’s goal of the season with a curling free kick from over 25 yards out, which nobody in the ground other than Keiran himself would have anticipated he would attempt.
