ASHMORE ARRIVES

2 October 2019

Boreham Wood Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of highly rated goalkeeper Nathan Ashmore on a season long loan from National League side Ebbsfleet United.

Nathan started out at Havant and Waterlooville and made his first team debut in 2008 following a youth career with Portsmouth. In 2011, Nathan had a loan spell at Gosport Borough, and after some impressive performances the move was made permanent.

In his 5 years at Gosport, he helped them gain successive promotions to the National League South, as well as a trip to Wembley in the FA Trophy Final.

Ashmore was then snapped up by Ebbsfleet helping them gain promotion to the National League. Since then Nathan has amassed over 170 appearances for the Fleet and has won the Supporters Player of the Season award for the past two years.

Nathan will be squad number 17 and he is eligible to play for the Wood in all cup competitions, including the FA Cup, FA Trophy and Herts Senior Cup. There is no recall notice in place.

On his arrival to the club Nathan said, “I’m excited. I know the manager, he wanted me before in the past, I played here about 10 years ago and pretty much it had none of this [the facilities], it’s come a long way and I’m very impressed, I’m just really excited to get going now.”

On managing to secure the services of Nathan Ashmore, Chairman Danny Hunter said, “Sometimes opportunity knocks and you have to go with it. Bromley’s keeper picked up a nasty injury last Saturday, Bromley then enquired about young Ryan Huddart and suddenly a deal is done between our clubs in no time. At the same time, Nathan was being circulated by Ebbsfleet, and I could see there was potential to get something done.

“I had quick chat with Luke Garrard and then my old friend in Garry Hill and the deal was done in less an hour between the clubs. In truth, I couldn’t be more pleased. If we can now get Nathan enjoying his football and if we can get him settled, then we know we have one hell of a keeper on our hands and a real platform to progress ourselves up the league.”

Gaffer Luke Garrard said, “I think he’s a top, top goalkeeper at this level. On his day, he’s one of the better goalkeepers and for us to be able to get this deal done is a credit to the Chairman and Charlie [Chief Executive.] He will bring professionalism and a presence, he’s a great acquisition to this football club.”

Welcome to Meadow Park, Nathan!
