WOOD SNAP UP STRIKER ON LOAN

Boreham Wood are excited to announce the arrival of striker Idris Kanu from Peterborough United, on a long-term loan.

One of the most exciting teenage strikers to have come out of the National League in recent seasons, the now 19-year-old joined The Posh from fellow National League outfit Aldershot Town, in the summer of 2017.

A pacey frontman, with an eye for goal, Kanu came through the academy at West Ham United, before joining the Shots, where he signed his first professional deal.

Kanu netted four times for Aldershot, before being snapped up by Peterborough United. He has also previously been on trial with Manchester United.

The 19-year-old enjoyed a short-term loan with League Two outfit Port Vale earlier this season, before being recalled by his parent club.

He will now link up with his new teammates, ahead of the game against Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday.

Upon signing, Kanu said: “The gaffer here, he knows what his plans are, and he has his idea of what he wants to do and what he wants from his teams, and I think that I fit into that.

“That is good for me, because I have been in a situation before, where I have joined a club and haven’t fitted into their plans. I needed to be in a place where it would be good for my development, and where I could help the team as well.

“I think that his style of play definitely suits me, it’s fast, high tempo and expressive. I feel like I am a ball carrier and I can dribble, I like to run off the ball and I can finish as well.

“I already knew Sorba Thomas too, and it is always good when you know someone in the team, I went to school with him, which was decent.”

Wood manager Luke Garrard said: “I remember him really, really clearly, when we played Aldershot Town away and he has carried the ball 80-yards and then gone and got his goal.

“If he can offer that up for me, for this football club, and for his teammates, I would be very excited about the prospect he is. He’s now at a period, where he needs to go and play games of football.

“Peterborough and Barry Fry have been fantastic and the relationship that my Chairman has with Barry Fry is unbelievable, because the deal was done within a matter of minutes.

“I am excited because he is a talent, I have had him in today and already seen glimpses of why he got the move to Peterborough.”
