ILESANMI: THE MOST IMPORTANT THING, IS GETTING THE THREE POINTS

13 December 2018

Femi Ilesanmi was happy with the team’s performance as his early strike earned The Wood victory over Leyton Orient.

We spoke to the goal-scorer following the final whistle, to hear his thoughts on the game, and that emphatic finish, which gave the three points to The Wood over National League high-flyers Leyton Orient.

“I thought it was a professional performance from the boys,” started Ilesanmi. “We’ve had a couple of weeks to prepare for this game. The gaffer introduced a new system and it really worked well. We’ve had time to prepare and our preparation definitely showed out there.”

The Wood were keen to get at Leyton Orient right from the start and the left-back felt that this was a key part of their game plan.

“The gaffer always emphasises on starting the game fast because a lot of teams take their time to grow into the game. So, if we can get them early, we can be on the front foot and that paid off today. We came flying out of the blocks and that proved to be crucial.”

The fast start paid off for Boreham Wood, who were able to capitalise on their early chances with a goal from Ilesanmi – his first for the Wood this season.

“It was nice to get off the mark. A couple of the boys were getting on to me about it, but it doesn’t really matter who scores, the most important thing is getting the three points which is what I am most happy about.

“I was screaming and screaming for it from Sorba and he’s seen me and backheeled it for me, and I always knew I was going to hit it. Nothing else came into my mind. I knew I had to focus, keep my head down and hit the target, and of course it went in.”

Boreham Wood managed the game well throughout, especially towards the end where in previous fixtures they have conceded late goals.

“We’ve had late upsets, the most recent one coming from AFC Fylde and we needed to learn from these mistakes quickly and that’s what we did today.

“We knew that in the final five, ten minutes of the game we all have to get behind the ball, defend, and see the rest of the game out.”

The Wood take on Torquay United next in the FA Trophy at Meadow Park, this Saturday, December 15 (3pm). Tickets are available to purchase HERE.
