GARRARD: I AM NOT A FOOL, I KNOW HOW TOUGH IT IS GOING TO BE

3 November 2018

Wood manager Luke Garrard discussed the importance of focusing on our own results, as opposed to the oppositions, in the lead up to our tie with in-form Solihull Moors.

Boreham Wood are back on the road in the National League tomorrow, when we Travel to sixth placed Solihull Moors (3pm).

Both sides come into the game in good form, with the Wood now unbeaten in their last five matches, in all competitions.

Solihull Moors meanwhile, have been somewhat of a surprise package this season, losing just once in their last nine matches.

However, Garrard asserted that Solihull’s advancements in the league, have come as no shock to himself.

He commented: “I have done some stats on them in the last few days, looking back to when Mark Yates took over in November last year.

“If you take their 18 games this season, and the 28 games from that time [onwards] last year – which obviously includes Tim Flowers taking over – they would be sitting fourth in the league table, after 46 games.

“They are sitting where they are in the table on merit and they have done fantastic work there. I am not a fool, I know how tough it is going to be on Saturday.”

The Wood themselves have recorded three wins and two draws in their last five matches, including an impressive away 1-1 draw against Aldershot Town, last time out.

Having done his homework, Garrard believes that he has got his side well drilled and prepared to deal with Solihull’s attacking threat.

“They play in your half and are very organised on set plays, with great strength and great height. For me, the front three are powerful and very strong on their day and they all have a mix of everything.

“I believe that I have found little chinks in their amour though, where we can try and hurt them, and we will hone in on that on Saturday.

“We’re going there with a confidence and a belief on Saturday that we can come away with something.”

Garrard also gave an update on the current injury situation, having welcomed back David Stephens on Tuesday.

The 33-year-old continued: “Dave Stephens had a 30-minute cameo on Tuesday evening and I probably could have started him. In fact, I probably could have started him against Bromley on Saturday.

“He has shown that he has not lost any fitness, he is as sharp as you like, and he is a presence when he goes into that central role.

“To have the likes of David Stephens and Keiran Murtagh back available is massive. I think Keiran Murtagh is one of the strongest central midfielders at this level and I think that David Stephens is one of the strongest centre-halves at this level.

“So to boast them two back in a matchday squad is very pleasing.”
