Boreham Wood Football Club are absolutely delighted to announce that after a slight delay in securing the club’s recent lease extension and agreeing tender prices; that we have received notification that our grant application to the Football Foundation for part funding of our new North Stand, was successful.
This decision will need full ratification by the Football Foundation’s management committee in September, but in the meantime, the club have been given permission by the FF to proceed with the project, at our own risk, in the interim period.
As such, everything is now in place and the building works will commence on the new North Stand and on the surrounding concourses within the next seven weeks. So, we are confident that mobilisation can start within a month and the stadium works can begin in earnest in July.
Our successful main contractors have been chosen and they will be Civils Ltd and Reid & Sons Ltd, who will both deliver on all aspects of the overall project.
These are two very well-respected companies within the stadia and ground facility sector, and as a club, we’ve worked extremely hard to secure their services on the project at the right price.
Chairman Danny Hunter said: “This is in truth, the culmination of three years’ hard work and planning, plus another three quarters of a million pounds’ worth of investment in our stadium, infrastructure and our future. So, the Football Foundation’s continued support and their contribution was absolutely crucial in turning a much needed facility improvement into an exciting reality.
“I’m thrilled with both the FF’s decision and the whole project, while a little relieved that everybody can see it’s necessity going forward. Especially as I gave our town, our council, our community, our supporters and our dressing room my word, that I would continue to build our club from the bottom up, both on-and-off-the-field, and this is very much the next stage of that promise.
“As always, I’ll need to be measured, I’ll need to take small steps forward and I’ll need to ask everyone to remain a little patient with us this season. As we look to strike a budget balance, as we get our stadium ready for the next phase of our football club’s upward journey.
“With our small steps progress in mind, I will before the end of the month announce another two building block contracts – that I’m signing off on, that will secure our stability over the next three years. These contracts will underpin and cement our business plan and the club’s immediate plans for both our community and school’s department, over the next academic year and beyond.
“As a club, we’ve enjoyed a bit of success over the last decade and let’s hope we can somehow replicate that in the future. Last season saw continued club progress in every area across the board. Real progress is being made by my day-to-day staff, the dressing room and of course with my sponsors, partners and council.
“Together we created a season and infrastructure that brought us a new training facility, new floodlights, new Desso pitch, a fourth place finish in the National League, a never to be forgotten FA Cup win over Blackpool, never to be forgotten play-off wins against both Fylde and Sutton United, and of course, our first ever walk up Wembley Way. And, we gave local people further employment.
“On top of that, a Herts Senior Cup triumph was achieved, and our incredible Academy won the ‘Champion of Champions’ again to become National Champions of England and Wales, and our U18’s earned themselves a League and Cup double.
“But for me, my abiding memory of the 2017/18 season, was to see our town, our club, our community and or supporters come together in a way that I never dreamed possible… And, my parting shot to bring a close to last season is a simple one…
“Thank you to our dressing room, our supporters, our sponsors, the Football Foundation, Hertsmere Borough Council and of course our very good friends at Arsenal. Keep supporting us, keep buying the season tickets (we’re nearly over 600), enjoy the summer, and hopefully we’ll see you all in again July.”
