In a non-competitive round robin format, Boreham Wood FC welcomed disability and day centre groups from all round Hertfordshire including Borehamwood, St. Albans, Bishops Stortford, Evergreen and Watford. The festival was held on Boreham Wood FC’s 3G astro pitch and with combined effort of Boreham Wood FC and Herts FA staff, the festival welcomed over 100 players, carers and parents.

Boreham Wood FC Community Manager Charlie Hunter commented “This Festival may be the most worthwhile cause I have been involved with during my time as Community Manager here at Boreham Wood FC. To see the inclusion and enjoyment from all those involved, it was a hugely fulfilling initiative to be a part of. These type of events are so amazing and I am delighted that we have connected with Ken and the Herts FA to make this possible.”

“To put it in perspective, I was speaking with a coach called Mark earlier today who has cerebral palsy. He’s 30 now and coaches disability and day center groups all over the county. He is an avid footballer and fan, but these type of events, as well as the awareness of disability football, weren’t really available when he was younger. He’s now a Level 2 coach with Watford FC’s Community Trust through the support of Watford and the Herts FA and regularly helps out at similar festivals. So it really does show the advancements we are making nation wide all the time, and we are delighted at BWFC to make strides towards becoming more inclusive in that respect too.”

Hunter concluded “We are making progress step by step and hopefully soon we will be looking after the Borehamwood Day Centre here at Boreham Wood FC. I am in discussions with Ken at the Herts FA and we are also hoping to make this a bi-annual event rather than just once a year. So watch this space.”
