WOOD ENTERTAIN BASINGSTOKE TOWN IN TOP OF THE TABLE CLASH

27 January 2015

This coming Saturday Wood are back in action after an eighteen day sabbatical when they entertain fellow title chasers Basingstoke Town.

The significance of this tie is obvious, with the visitors nine points behind Wood with two games in hand. The sides last met back in September when we gave away an early lead to lose 2-1 at The Camrose. It was Town’s leading goal scorer Chris Flood who bagged a brace on the day, He has amassed 14 goals to date this season and will no doubt pose a great threat to our defence on Saturday.

Town have lost just two of their last nine matches in total, with Eastbourne Borough and then Bromley last Saturday picking up the maximum points.

Since we were last in action on that memorable night at Broadhall Way., Chairman Danny Hunter has allowed The Gaffer to strengthen the squad with the additions of Daryl McMahon and Tyrone Miller-Rodney.

I caught up with Ian at Monday night’s training session to find out how things have been shaping up since our last match , back on January 13th.

“ We have been ticking over nicely and have not missed a training session. It has been strange not playing for so long but the break has enabled all the little niggling injuries to some of the squad to be addressed. As such I will have a fully fit squad to choose from for the Basingstoke game.”

With his side still top of the League with just fourteen games to play, I asked Ian how he sees things panning out. “ There will be twists and turns right up to and into the play off’s, that is for sure. We will approach every game on an individual basis. With the support of The Chairman allowing me to bring in Daryl and Tyrone to the squad I can select my team wisely, given that we face two games in 48 hours again next weekend, with the trip to Whitehawk followed by our rescheduled match with Farnborough away.”

The townsfolk are encouraged to turn out in numbers as we approach the business end to the season. The dream is very much alive and your support is paramount to keep the positive results coming.

Saturday January 31st.

Boreham Wood v Basingstoke Town, kick off 3pm.
