FARNBOROUGH PREVIEW

13 January 2012

On Saturday 14th January 2012, Boreham Wood travel to Hampshire to face Farnborough in the Blue Square Bet South, kick off 3.00pm.

Boreham Wood did not play last weekend as their scheduled game against Salisbury City was postponed due to Salisbury’s involvement in the FA Cup, taking on Sheffield United in the 3rd Round, ‘Wood’ were left without a game and have had to wait a fortnight until their next competitive fixture.

Last season when ‘Wood’ travelled to Cherrywood Road to face ‘Boro’ they sat in the bottom three of the Blue Square Bet South and Farnborough were vying for a playoff place. However a single Elliott Godfrey goal saw ‘Wood’ take all three points that evening and was somewhat a start to ‘Wood’s’ revival.

Farnborough, who reached the Blue Square Bet South playoff final last season after finishing 2nd in the league, have a totally new look squad after turning full time in the summer. Boreham Wood acquired three of their players from last season, in Michael Jordan, Osei Sankofa and Daryl McMahon, and this will be the first time they meet their former club since leaving in the summer. Daryl, Osei and Michael were inspirational in Farnborough’s Southern League Championship and Blue Square Bet South Runners Up sides.

Farnborough currently sit 18th in the Blue Square Bet South after recording 23 points from their 24 games so far this season, averaging below 1 point per game. Also, Farnborough have the worst defensive record in the league, conceding 55 goals already this league campaign, so an open, attacking game full of goals could be in store.
