Wood Progress through to the last Eight in the College National Cup

Boreham Wood FC 4-0 West Suffolk College

Wood progressed through to the last Eight of the College National Cup with an impressive      4-0 home win against West Suffolk.

Wood who played three games prior to the third round scoring an impressive eight goals and conceding none faced an inform side situated second in the Premier Three League, West Suffolk also yet to concede in the Cup and scoring Eleven provided a tough encounter prior to kick off.

West Suffolk started sharp with real pace and drive from the kick off, creating a shooting chance for striker Ryan Clarke for him to drag his shot wide of the mark. 

With both teams looking to take the lead it was for the home side to take the advantage from in from striker Simeon Akinola who found himself one vs one in the box for him to toe poke home the opener.  Wood soon doubled the lead after Simeon Akinola was hacked down in the box for Under 18s skipper Charlie Hunter to send Neil Pope the West Suffolk goalie the wrong way.

Wood went in at the break 2-0 to the good.

Second Half was much of the same with the game really open, with West Suffolk sending numbers forward Wood was very much backs to the wall, showing their strength in defence. 

But it was Wood who got the goal and sealed the game, it was a counter attack that put the game to bed, after West Suffolk attacked in numbers breaking down the left and leaving themselves exposed at the back, after Bradley Fraser cleared the threat Jordan Lawal was able to pick up the loose ball and drive at the back two for him to slip in Simeon Akinola for him to round the goalie and slot into an empty net.

Wood soon finished the rout with an opening goal for the season from England College International Jordan Lawal who showed endeavour and desire to loop his header over advancing goalie for him to take a whack on the head for his efforts.

Wood now progressed through to the Quarter Finals with only two games that stand in their way to make the ECFA Cup final.

Manager Luke Garrard speaking after the game was extremely happy “we produced the goods today, with a disciplined performance.  We dealt with the threat from West Suffolk and played them well on the counter attack.  We didn’t play as much attractive football as I would have liked but we managed to punish them at the right stages in the game.  We now await the Quarter final draw and look forward to progressing through to the later stages of this illustrious cup competition”
