Five more for reserves

3 February 2011

Wood reserves continued their fine form at the weekend with another Suburban league victory against Leverstock Green.

Charlie Hunter opened the scoring from the penalty spot after Akinola had been taken down, coolly placing it into the side of the net. A second was soon to follow.

A short corner to Liam Griffin (who had replaced Connor Lancaster after a knock to his eye left his vision blurred) bent the ball into the box for Scott-Morris to cleverly score with a flick through his legs past the keeper. Then not long before half time Akinola raced through beating the last defender and rounding the goal keeper to walk the ball over the line giving us a 3-0 lead going into the break.

The game now was firmly in Wood’s control. Scott-Morris added a second to his growing tally of goals with a great centre forwards header, rising at the back post to out jump everyone and head back across goal into the far corner.

Not to be out done by his fellow forward Akinola bagged his brace with a quite superb individual effort. Picking up a loose ball he stepped a dragged in between two defenders, dropped his right shoulder and cut into the box to beat the next. A quick shimmy and step over to beat the last and finally bent his shot across goal into the far side of the net.

An excellent finish to yet another excellent performance for Woods high flying reserves.
