WOOD BAG STRIKER

15 July 2015
Charlie Macdonald

Boreham Wood Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of Charlie Macdonald from Barnet FC..

The vastly experienced striker has amassed over 350 appearances in both the football league and at the top end of non-league football. He has scored 138 times along the way and joins the club after leaving Conference Champions
at the end of last season having captained them to the Conference Premier Division trophy.

Macdonald started his career at Charlton Athletic in their Academy. During his time there he spent time on loan at Cheltenham Town, Torquay United and Colchester United. He left Charlton in 2002 having made 8 appearances scoring one goal.

Charlie came to prominence in 2007 though, when he scored 39 goals in 61 appearances for Gravesend and Northfleet (Now known as Ebbsfleet United).

That secured a move to Southend but just 1 goal in 26 appearances saw Charlie move on to Brentford where he was far more successful netting 40 goals in 111 appearances over 3 seasons.

His next port of call was MK Dons, as the Dons paid Brentford £35,000 for his services and he scored 11 in 52 appearances.

After two years at MK Dons he moved back south and joined Leyton Orient on a one year deal making 20 appearances scoring 3 goals.

In 2014/15 Macdonald signed for Barnet, and was handed the captains armband by manager Martin Allen. Macdonald went on to make 30 appearances scoring 8 times, with 10 assists as he played his part in the Bee’s promotion before his release.

On getting the deal over the line, ‘Wood’ Gaffer Ian Allinson said “I’m excited to be able to work with somebody like Charlie and he will be very important to us this season. I’ve said since our promotion that we would need to be patient to get the players that I want at this club and the Chairman has thankfully backed me with this deal. I will though get a player who understands the level we’re now at, a player who is still hungry to perform, a player with great experience and having met him I know Charlie will be a real asset to the team and his new team mates..
