Boreham Wood Football Club in conjunction with local shopping giants Tesco’s, have spent three days at the store packing bags and raising money for local good causes.. In that period all the players, coaches and management staff from our Under 16’s, right through to the First Team have made the trip down to Tesco Borehamwood to do their bit..
It was good for both the Players and Management team to spend some time engaging with our local community. It also gave us the chance to show our community some of the plans envisaged of what their towns Football Club, could look like in the future with everyones support..
In helping local people to pack their shopping, by taking time to have a chat with people or simply taking their shopping to people’s cars. It helped everyone get into the true spirit of Christmas and st the same time helped the club to actively raising funds for local good causes..
One local good cause is The Visually Impaired Club, who primarily but not exclusively help the blind and partially sighted people of Radlett, Elstree, Borehamwood and Shenley.. BWFC were very, very happy to raise awareness of what the Visually Impaired Club does and how it helps and supports those local people less fortunate than ourselves..
The amount BWFC raised for the Visually impaired Club over the three days came in at £750 and we would just like to thank Tesco’s for giving us the vehicle to help others. Thank all those who participated in this initiative and finally to thank all those who gave so generously to such a great cause.
Cllr Sandra Parnell who is an advocate of both the football Club and the Visually Impaired club said “My sincere thanks go to Boreham Wood Football Club for agreeing to take on this local charity for one year. I know the community of Borehamwood means a great deal to the Chairman and all of the people connected with the club. It was a great to see the players, coaches and management giving up their time to support the community, this local charity and It looked like they were having a lot of fun and so a big thank you to all of you.”
Community Manager Charlie Hunter, having spent three days at Tesco commented “The TESCO bag packing days are something we have done in the past and is always in aid of a local good cause. This year we have been raising funds for an amazing club based at Maxwell Park Community Centre in Borehamwood”.
“The Visually Impaired Club is a small social club for the blind and partially sighted that runs itself on a weekly basis. The response from the public at Tesco’s this week in regards to our efforts for this club, has been heart warming and extremely positive. So I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have donated so generously over the past three days.
“A special mention must also go to all our BWFC staff and players, who have been doing the bag packing at TESCO this week. The laughter, fun, energy and enthusiasm they put in, to raise awareness and money for local good causes was amazing.. I’d also like to thank TESCO themselves, in particular Emma Vauls who has been so welcoming and helpful.. Finally on behalf of everyone at Boreham Wood FC, can we thank all our supporters and local community for your help and support this year and wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!”
Club Chairman Danny Hunter Added “as we have grown as a club, it has allowed us a tad more freedom to help others less fortunate than ourselves. They say charity begins at home and his particular club is a very worthy local good cause”..
“It does go under the radar, so to raise awareness of the Visually Impaired Club was and is very important. Of course to raise the much needed funding was a challenge but it is never a chore and to see the monies raised help local people, simply makes it an absolute privilege”.. He concluded.
