SEVEN YEARS AND STILL NO ITCH

5 May 2022

After seven seasons in the hot seat, Wood Manager Luke Garrard still has no itch to leave, and so he and Boreham Wood FC Chairman Danny Hunter, in their time-honoured way, sat down for a full five minutes to agree a new and improved 3-year contract that will begin on 1st July 2022.

In his seven years at the helm, Luke has established Boreham Wood FC at the very top table of non-league football’s pyramid and helped shape a forward-thinking National League Club. Our renowned underdog pedigree has in his time been enhanced and we are now a respected Club within the division and known as a very difficult side to beat.

Luke, in his time, has also taken the Club to the National League play-offs on two occasions, taken the Club to Wembley in a play-off final and to the brink of the Football League. Throughout his tenure, his teams have beaten a host of professional clubs in the FA Cup and taken the Club to new heights in the 3rd and 5th Rounds of the FA Cup over the last two seasons.

On signing his new contract Wood’s Gaffer Luke Garrard said, “I’m absolutely delighted to extend my contract, it’s common knowledge how much I love it here and how much I want to progress with this Football Club. It’s not just my job, it’s my life. I’ve been here a long time and I have been fortunate enough to create some really good memories with the Chairman and staff at the Club.

“Seven years have flown by and the progress I’ve seen is a huge reason why I want to stay and to continue on this journey, as I strongly believe we have what it takes to get to the EFL.

“I want to thank the Chairman for all his support and his belief in me all those years ago, I just want to continue doing my best to repay his faith. I know this season has had its ups and downs, but it’s another year that went down in the Club’s history books and I want to thank the fans patience, but more importantly their support, over this last year and I look forward to steering our Club to more memorable moments in the coming years…”

A delighted Danny Hunter said, “You make a lot of decisions in your life and tough decisions are often mirrored in football. Some work out well for you and others fall flat on their face, but it’s safe to say that this was one of my better decisions, especially as everybody doubted that decision at the time.

“Seven years later, and with another new managerial contract signed off, it’s hard to put into words the emotion I feel when describing this incredible young man’s work ethic, while watching his football intelligence and dressing room management grow. It’s also fantastic to see other people now acknowledging and recognising his achievements and qualities, but I also feel immense pride when I see him within his family unit and I know they will all be very happy here for the next three years.

“In truth Gabriel Clarke, during our FA Cup run, says it far better than I ever could…” (See Gabriel Clarke’s ITV feature video pre-Everton below.)

“The video sums up everything about Luke, about our relationship and why I feel Boreham Wood Football Club, our Town and our Community are very lucky to have him” Hunter concluded.

OUR CLUB. OUR TOWN. OUR COMMUNITY.
