Boreham Wood FC’s Community Department have again hosted their annual Primary School’s Tournaments over the last fortnight and we are delighted they a huge success.
Over the past two weeks, the Community team at Meadow Park has hosted Girls Year 5/6, Boys Year 4/5 and Boys Year 5/6 Tournaments. With 13 teams and over 130 children participating. As an added extra, Boreham Wood FC also teamed up with supermarket giants TESCO in Borehamwood to provide packed lunches for all participants and their coaches/teachers.
Last Friday we welcomed Oakmere, Shenley, Parkside and Kenilworth for our Year 5/6 Girls Tournament. In what was a fiercely contested group stage and semi-finals. Shenley met Kenilworth in the Final, and top goalscorer and player of the tournament Annie Swain was the difference between the two sides, scoring a brace to clinch the title for Shenley.
A week later, we hosted our boys tournaments, which were again highly competitive. In the year 5/6 tournament, holders Shenley met 2014 Champions St. Teresas. St. Teresas who won all their games previously in the tournament, narrowly won the final 1-0. As the game looked destined for extra time, a moment of magic from ‘Zona’ following a mazy dribble and left footed strike gave St. Teresas their 2nd title in 3 years. Josh Trowsdale and Freddie Marlborough won golden boot and player of the tournament trophies respectively to give St. Teresas a clean sweep of awards.
In the year 4/5 tournament, Kenilworth and St. Teresas met in the final. Kenilworth who has previously won all the games, scoring 17 goals in the process were pushed all the way. Another late goal in normal time settled the tie, this time not in St. Teresas’ favour. Kai Sullivan scored the winner, tapping in from close range following a goal mouth scramble. Jacob of Kenilworth was golden boot, whilst Kai Sullivan won player of the tournament, captaining his team to victory and scoring the winning goal in the final.
Community Manager Charlie Hunter commented “It was a hugely successful fortnight, a period that is always a highlight in the Community Department’s calendar here at Boreham Wood FC.
“The tournaments were played in a great spirit, the weather was extremely kind to us on both days and some of the football played was really impressive. When you see the enjoyment on the faces of the players, coaches/teachers and parents it makes it all worthwhile. Well done to all who participated and congratulations to our winners!”
