MIDFIELDER JOINS BOREHAM WOOD

9 June 2017

Boreham Wood are delighted to announce the capture of Kieran Murtagh as the club’s first summer signing, Murtagh joins the Wood Army on a two-year-deal from Woking.

An international with Antigua and Barbuda, Murtagh has played 22 times for his country, scoring five goals and he made over 100 appearances during a three-year stint with Woking.

Wood Army manager Luke Garrard spoke with delight at finally getting his man, he said: “On his day I believe that Kieran Murtagh can be the best central midfielder in the league, he has an abundance of ability.

“I am very happy, it has obviously been a busy period since the end of the season and we have been patient as a club because we are trying to get the right ones in.”

28-year-old Murtagh started his career with Charlton Athletic but left for Fisher Athletic without making a senior appearance.

However, the midfielder was back in the Football League just a year later with League One Yeovil Town after an impressive debut season.

Spells with Wycombe Wanderers, Cambridge United, Macclesfield Town and Mansfield Town all followed before he found a more permanent home at Woking.

Murtagh told the club website: “I am very pleased, I think that a new challenge is what I need right now.

“After being at Woking for a few years, I think that it is good to change things up a little bit and see where it takes you.”

The midfielder said that talks with the manager and his former Woking teammate Mark Ricketts quickly convinced him to join Boreham Wood.

“I spoke to the manager and he was very enthusiastic about what he wants to do.

“I have played with Ricco [Mark Ricketts] before and I have enjoyed playing with Ricco very much, so obviously he was a big part in me singing as well.

“I believe that I can bring a bit of quality into the middle of the park; me and Ricco have played together and worked together very well before so I think that partnership will be very important for us this season.”
