MATCH REPORT LUTON TOWN

The Wood more than matched their league two opponents Luton Town at Meadow Park on Tuesday evening.  With the drizzle starting to fall just before kick off it gave the playing surface a zip which suited the Wood.

The first chance of the game came for Luton, a deep cross from the right found Tiryaki who had just strayed offside.

The best chance of the game came early in the first half came for the home side, a mistake at the back by O’Brien allowed Crawford a sight of goal however Justham stood tall and made a great save, which he followed up with a second as Whichelow fired the loose ball towards goal.

Ricky Shakes picked up a loose ball 30 yards out, drove forward taking a chance with a shot from 25 yards that flew over Justham’s goal.

McCourt who showed his class throughout picked the ball up outside the Wood 18 yard box, produced a great bit of skill to get past Hill, his pull back was delightful and Reynolds got back in the nick of time to clear away the danger.

Clifford who ran the midfield for the Wood produced some fantastic balls forward, this one with the outside of his foot found Shakes in an advanced position however the experienced McNulty cleared away.

Luton’s best chance of the half fell to McGeehan, a corner from the right found the Luton man unmarked. His header was fizzed into the ground and over the bar.

Luton began the second half with a completely new XI whilst the Wood made a number of changes.

Wood got off to the best possible start, McKail-Smith lost the ball to Cox in Midfield. He gave the ball to Gifford who tried sliding in Whichelow. The covering defender got his foot to the ball which ran to Morias who calmly slotted past Justham to give the Wood the lead.

McKaill-Smith combined well with Tiryaki on the edge of the box, he took a touch a shot past the post.

Wood almost had a second, Gifford again was the creator. He played a deep ball into the box which was only half cleared, Morias hit it on the half volley and it cannoned off the post and out for a goal kick.

Morias who looked sharp picked the ball up from a throw in and pulled the trigger from 20 yards with the ball just going over the bar.

Luton as you would expect pressed forward, the Wood custodian was in fine form making a couple of great saves.

Galliford found himself space in the box and Mckain got himself in the way of an effort that was heading goal wards.

McKail-Smith levelled proceedings, a simple ball of the top of the Wood defence gave the experienced front man plenty of time to pick his spot and slot past the on coming keeper.

Luton nearly won the game late on, Banton on the right put in a great ball which Martin was equal too putting it behind for a corner.

However Wood had the last chance on a great evening of entertaining football. Morias capitalised on a defensive mistake looping the ball over the oncoming Justham who handled outside the area. Whichelow took the free kick which was cleared after hitting the wall.

Wood squad: Russell (Trialist), Nunn, Woodards (Garrard), Cox (Merson), Hill (Martin), Reynolds, (Mckain), Whichelow, Shakes, Crawford (Akinde), Clifford (Thomas) Montgomery (Morias)
