FYLDE COAST PAST WOOD

26 October 2019

Boreham Wood 0-2 AFC Fylde
Saturday 26th October September 2019, Meadow Park
Vanarama National League

AFC Fylde produced an impressive performance on the road against Boreham Wood which saw the visitors come away 2-0 winners meaning they move up to 18th in the Vanarama National League.

Boreham Wood started the first half with a brilliant chance to break the deadlock inside the first minute, strike partnership of Tyrone Marsh and Kabongo Tshimanga linked up well but the latter couldn’t carve out a shot on goal.

Neither side were able to get a hold of the ball and play their game in the early stages, the torrential conditions being a large factor to the lack of early chances.

In the 12th minute, Rowe controlled the ball in his own half, turned and dribbled, before he struck the ball ambitiously from 40 yards trying to catch out Ebbsfleet United loanee Nathan Ashmore, but the shot went sailing wide.

It took 19 minutes before the deadlock was broken via a spectacular effort from the coasters left back Andrew Taylor who hit the ball on the volley from 30 yards out which looped in underneath Ashmore’s bar to give the away side a 1-0 lead.

Boreham Wood came out of the blocks in the second half with a flurry of early chances, Thomas and the front two, Tshimanga and Marsh, worked well but again failed to create any clear-cut chances on goal.

AFC Fylde dominated the ball in the midfield throughout the second half and Luke Garrard saw enough in the 65th minute deciding to bring on Piero Mingoia for Sorba Thomas. Mingoia made an instant impact showing some good, intricate touches in the away side’s half.

After more dominance from the Coasters, Garrard made a second substitution seeing defender Tom Champion make way for striker Justin Shaibu, seeing the Wood convert to a more attacking 4-3-3 formation.

However, Boreham Wood still failed to create definitive chances despite the change in formation and then Garrard decided to go for a more direct approach by putting defender David Stephens up front to add an aerial threat to the attack.

Moments later though, in the 91st minute, the Coasters doubled their lead through substitute Daniel Bradley, who cut in well from the right hand side, unleashed a strike on goal, but Ashmore could only parry the ball back into the path of Bradley who had the simple task of tapping the ball into an empty net.
