ESPNsoccernet.COM NATIONAL GAME AWARDS 2010 / 11

11 June 2011

Boreham Wood Football Club is very proud to announce that Team Manager Ian Allinson is the winner of the PFA Fairplay Award for 2010/11.

Ian was recently presented with his award by Nick Cusack of the PFA.

In January 2011, Boreham Wood’s Ian Allinson put his side’s fight for vital points in their Blue Square Bet South relegation battle aside to do something good for the game.

A goal down at Havant & Waterlooville, Wood were given a lifeline when the ball was put out of play by a Havant player, so that a player could receive treatment.    Wood striker, Ali Chaaban, was supposed to return the ball to Havant & Waterlooville, but he overhit his pass and goalkeeper Aaron Howe was caught off guard, and the score was levelled at 1 – 1.    Ian Allinson refused to take the equaliser, and along with his Assistant Manager, Jason Goodliffe, ordered his side to allow Havant a walk through winning goal.

Ian, who eventually guided his Club to Blue Square Bet South safety commented “It is a privilege and a lovely feeling to win this Award.    It was the right thing to do, Jason and I were adamant on the day.    If it had meant we were relegated, everyone was comfortable with that.    The Chairman certainly was comfortable with it and we got our reward, because we managed to stay up!”
