Boreham Wood FC’s ‘in the Community’ program again hosted their annual Primary School’s Tournament this week, which was once again a hugely successful event enjoyed by local Primary School children, teachers and parents a like.
The Community team, in partnership with tournament sponsors Oliver & Akers Estate Agents, welcomed 16 teams in total and in excess of 150 local school children and teachers across the girls year 5/6, boys year 4/5 and boys year 5/6 tournaments. This was BWFC Community Department’s 4th annual primary school tournament, of which Oliver & Akers has now generously sponsored the event 2 out of 4 occasions.
In addition to the generous sponsorship from our partners Oliver & Akers, National League Trust President Brian Lee also joined BWFC on the day to recognise our close relationship. Brian visited the tournament to observe the outstanding work being done by our community program and to present a grant cheque to BWFC.
First Team Manager Luke Garrard, Academy Manager Billy Hunter, and Head Academy Coach Cameron Mawer were in attendance to accept the cheque on BWFC’s behalf from Brian Lee and the National League Trust. The grant is awarded to BWFC annually by the National League Trust as a contribution towards BWFC’s community initiatives locally, which includes youth tournaments, disability and inclusive football coaching, walking football provision, youth and schools coaching, as well as much, much more.
Head Academy Coach Cameron Mawer commented, “This is the 4th consecutive year we have organised a tournament for local Primary Schools, and it has become an eagerly anticipated event within our community calendar. The event is met by so much optimism and energy from local school children, teachers and parents, which makes the event so rewarding for the Club and our community team.”
Mawer concluded “The tournaments were played in a great spirit, the weather was extremely kind to us and some of the football played was extremely impressive. When you see the enjoyment on the faces of the players, coaches/teachers and parents, it makes it all worthwhile. Well done to all who participated and congratulations to our winners! Lastly, as a Club we must thank Oliver & Akers who continue to support our community events, as well as the continuous support we receive from our friends at the National League Trust. Without their support, events such as our tournaments would not be possible!”
