Boreham Wood and Guiseley played out a frustrating 0-0 draw at Nethermoor Park on Tuesday night, as the Wood stretched their unbeaten run to six.
However, Luke Garrard’s side will feel that it was two points lost, as the Lions kept out a host of chances.
Luke Garrard made two changes from the win over Chester, with Jamie Turley coming in at centre back, and Tom Champion pushing up into a midfield three. Ricky Shakes then replaced Danny Woodards on the left.
The Wood had the ball in the back of the net within 10 minutes, but Bruno Andrade was pulled back for offside. The in-form forward then curled a free-kick just past the post, shortly after.
Andrade was pulling the strings for the visitors in the early stages, and forced a strong save from Jonathan Maxted, with a powerful half-volley on the edge of the area.
The Wood continued to press the home side, and Shakes arrived late into the box at a corner, but headed over the crossbar.
Guiseley’s first chance of the half came through captain Ash Palmer, but he headed Lee Molyneux’s free-kick wide.
Stephens leapt highest at a free kick, but he headed Andrade’s free-kick straight into the hands of Maxted. A clever through ball from Smith was then met by the left foot of Andrade, but he was unable to turn Darren Holden and lost the ball.
Champion had been pushed into a midfield role, as Garrard looked to combat the Lions’ more direct style of play. Champion found himself on the edge of the area, as the ball fell kindly for him, but he lashed his shot just wide.
Rowan Liburd snatched the ball deep in the away half and drove towards Grant Smith, but Stephens was back to intercept at the vital moment.
Champion found himself in a similar position on the edge of the area, as the ball again fell for him, but his shot sailed narrowly over the crossbar.
Stephens headed Andrade’s free kick back across the area, but no one could get onto the end of it.
Still desperate for the opening goal, a mistake from Holden was chased down by Andrade, but Maxted reacted quickly enough to clear.
A cross from Kane Smith then appeared to be curling into the top left corner but went narrowly wide.
With just ten minutes remaining the Wood continued to create the better chances, and Stephens should have had the winner. The defender met Andrade’s corner, but couldn’t direct his header on target.
Grant Smith made a match winning save, as he acrobatically pushed Molyneux’s powerful shot out of the top left corner.
With injury time ticking away, the Wood had one last chance and Smith’s low cross across the box should have been turned in, but no one was able to get a boot to it.
